Poor construction skills

A light switch without the paneling.

I was hired to come out to a house recently to do an inspection on a bathroom remodel in the north Georgia area.   The elderly home owners had hired a contractor to remodel their master bath.  A few things had then stood out to the home owners that maybe they needed to have the work checked.  That's where I came in.

I can say that the work was not particularly horrible, but it was not a professional job.  A wire on the light switch was barely touching the screw it was supposed to be connected to.  The tile floor in the shower was, well, wavy is the best way to describe it.  The shower handle was not attached, it was just put in place.  And there were a few other issues.  Any of the issues I found would be minor if they were alone.  But add them all together and one starts to wonder what can't be seen.

A home inspection is not just for the purchase of a home.  A qualified inspector can assist during new construction, remodels, and just advice on how to proceed with issues in a house.

I want to make sure I add that there are many highly qualified contractors out there.  Ask for references.  Do an online search.  Ask for recommendations from friends and others.
