I'm asked at times why I became a home inspector. There are a few reasons but two stand out to me as the most important.
First, construction simply makes sense to me. I've been involved with it since I was about 11 years old and I've never had a problem understand the hows and whys or residential construction. The overall process of building a structure just fits.
Second would be that I like to teach. I prefer to do more than just fill out an inspection report and then call it a day. I enjoy teaching my client about their house. I want to show them what a problem is, why it's a problem and then provide the information they need to address it. Sometimes that information is a referral to a proper professional who specializes in a particular area of a house system, and sometimes it is information I have based on my own education and experience. I also like to point out the good things in a house and educate my client on how they can keep it that way.
Inspecting a house is about more than a report and a few photos. It's and education process. I hope that you'll give me the opportunity to teach you about your next home.
